LETTER OF PROCEEDINGS.

Sir,
I have the honour to report that owing to the political situation in Danton, H.M.Ship under my Command remained in Canton during the whole of the month
of June.
The month has been an eventful one, commencing with the fighting between the Cantonese and the Yunnanese and Kwangsi troops under Yang tao Ming and Lau Chan Wan, and culminating with the armed attack on Shame on.
General.
Early in June it became obvious that the
break between the Cantonese Government and the Yunnanese
and Kwangei troops could not be far off.
în 6th June, Yang tại Ming, the Yunnanese Commander in Chief, sent in and informed us that relations between the local Government and himself had been definitely broken off. He promised to do his best to protest foreign lives and property.
That evening the
Cantonese gunboats and ärmed launches stemmed up the Front Reach firing a gunshot or two and a few bursts from
The Yunnanese cleared our Machine guns at the Bund. Defence Creek and placed a mall guard near the British
Bridge.
Desultory firing across the river between the City and Honam continued for the next few days spreading
At regular periods to the area above Shameen as well. during the night the firing would become quite heavy for
a few minutes.
